Brief description of First Baptist Church and internship program
First Baptist Church of Minot, ND will be seeking applicants for a 2009 summer staff position for a Youth Ministry Internship Program. First Baptist Church is affiliated with the North American Baptist Conference (www.nabconference.org), and evangelical in nature. Click here for our statment of beliefs. The internship program is provided for young men and women who are sensing the call of God into full-time ministry. The program provides individuals with the opportunity to three key areas of development: spiritual formation, leadership formation, and ministry formation. This program will be supervised and individuals are instructed by the pastoral staff of First Baptist Church. The youth ministries intern position is a paid ($400/week), full-time (40+ hours weekly) position that runs for 10 weeks during the summer with the final week including our VBS program. The dates for the program are flexible. However, the suggested duration is June 2 – August 9.
Requirements for Youth Ministry Intern candidates
- The intern must have a clear testimony of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. He/she must model this faith in daily lifestyle.
- The intern must have an awareness of his/her spiritual gifts and reflect the fruit of the Holy Spirit. He/she must demonstrate a dedication to learning more about these gifts, how to use them in ministry, and how to develop spiritual authority.
- The intern must fully support the ministries of First Baptist Church. Part of this role is to build up the body of Christ here, which requires a commitment to the members of this church. Full compliance with our statement of faith and theological commitments will also be expected.
- The intern is to maintain a positive attitude toward all church staff and church family. He/she is to keep his/her heart spiritually sensitive to the needs that are found in the Body of Christ and do his/her part in meeting those needs.
- The intern is expected to meet regularly with the Pastor of Student Ministries and provide written reports on work completed and goals for upcoming ministry events. Additionally, these meetings will give opportunities for discussion leadership issues and evaluate ministry events. A final performance review will be conducted in the last week of service.
- The intern is encouraged to spend time each week in personal study that relates to future ministry plans.
- The Pastor of Student Ministries and the Senior Pastor will interview prospective candidates. Selection will be prayerfully made by the pastoral staff and consultation with the board of Elders.
General responsibilities of the Intern
- Be responsible for the planning and implementation of summer youth ministry program under the guidance and assistance of the Pastor of Student Ministries. This includes:
- Organizing and hosting a weekly Wednesday night youth meeting.
- Lead or teach a Bible study at these weekly meetings.
- Plan and lead a significant summer ministry outreach event.
- Be available to teach during some Sunday school sessions.
- Be available as a dorm leader for one or more of our youth camps.
- Various youth ministry responsibilities as designated.
- Be available for various other ministry responsibilities for the church as designated by the Pastor of Student Ministries and the Senior Pastor (including VBS).
- Be prepared for weekly mentoring meetings with a pastor for training/development (accountability, ministry review, ministry philosophy…).
- Be involved in regular staff meetings and staff relationships.
Meeting academic requirements
If the applicant is seeking to gain academic credit through an internship with First Baptist Church, this must be clearly communicated during the application process. A complete list of program requirements must be presented during the application process to assess the compatibility of our program. Upon review, First Baptist church may choose to comply with all credit requirements.
Housing
Housing is generally provided through a host family that voluntarily offers some space in their home for the intern. It is the responsibility of the intern to be an appropriate guest and maintain their welcome for the duration of the internship.
